ABOUT ME

Daniel Cauchi, 38, is a freelance musician, producer, composer, and music director who has made significant contributions to Malta’s cultural and artistic landscape. He is the founder of the Big Band Brothers, a 17-piece ensemble known for its innovative projects, and The Box, a creative arts space dedicated to fostering interdisciplinary work. Daniel is also the lead singer of Kafena and a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta. Over the years, he has produced and directed a range of notable events, including three editions of Ftakar, twelve productions of Kelma Kelma Nota Nota, five productions of Folla Nies, and three editions of A One Night Stand with the BBB. In 2022, he served as Music Director and Composer for the Opening Ceremony of the Malta Special Olympics Invitational Games, while in 2018, he directed the openings of both the Malta Arts Festival and the Malta Arts Awards. His work in theater includes composing for productions such as Ospizio and Bejn Linja u Oħra, as well as creating the multidisciplinary aerial performance Kubu. Recent projects include producing Il-Festa tal-Festi in support of the Malta Community Chest Fund. Daniel was appointed Artistic Director for Region of Culture 2024, representing the Eastern Region. Together with Yanis, he co-produced Kuraġġ in 2024, a concert celebrating stories of resilience and courage.

As a percussionist, Daniel was Principal Percussionist with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra from 2008 to 2022 and has collaborated with international ensembles, recording works by contemporary composers. He has also produced three Maltese albums—Ftakar and Xehda with the Big Band Brothers, and Lukanda Propaganda with Kafena—and toured extensively, performing in countries across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. Alongside his artistic endeavors, Daniel has created educational initiatives such as L-Investigaturi tal-Mużika and L-Għanjiet tal-Milied, showcasing his commitment to engaging and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
